A Wonderful Opportunity To Serve

The Cub Scout theme for the month of April is "Service" and we have found a wonderful opportunity for our Scouts to make a difference and have a great time, too!! "A Party With A Purpose" will be on Saturday, April 10 from 2:00-4:30pm at Arrowhead Park in Chandler (On Erie Street between Alma School and Dobson, Erie is between Ray and Chandler Blvd.). There will be bunches of games set up for the kids to play--fun, active games based on the NBC-TV show "Minute to Win It". And, to get into the party, all you need to do is collect and bring some of the following items: non-perishable food, spare change or gently used clothing or household items. The non-perishable food will be donated to the United Food Bank; the spare change will be donated to Feeding America, which has a food kitchen in Mesa; and the clothing and household items will be donated to African refugee families living in the Valley who are starting over with nothing but a mattress.

If you are able to join in on the fun, even for just part of the party--please let Tim know as soon as possible. Come in uniform, ready to have fun and help out with some of the collections and activities. Bring the whole family and invite ALL your friends!! Everyone is welcome, the more, the better!!

If you are not able to come, but would still like to serve the community, please bring any of the above mentioned items to the next Den Meeting--which will be Monday, April 5, 6:30pm at First Baptist Church of Chandler. You can also invite your friends and tell them about this wonderful opportunity to serve the community.

I know it's short notice, but the Kellers are hoping to see many of you on the afternoon of Saturday April 10 at Arrowhead Park in Chandler!! Let us know you are coming so we can look for you!!

Spring Hike Update

Okay, here are some details from tonight's Pack Meeting. The cost per family is $5. Every Scout needs an Informed Consent Agreement (ICA) filled out and turned in. I'll have copies of the ICA at the April 5 Den Meeting. It is most likely going to be COLD. Camp Raymond is an official Scout Camp, so there is the possibility of some pretty cool activities depending on weather. If you google "Camp Raymond Arizona" a link with a description of the camp should pop up. Dates for the Camp Out are April 23-25. That is a Friday-Sunday.

If you haven't already told me that you are considering/planning to attend, please shoot me an e-mail at tkeller@ij.org and let me know. Details about specific camp activities (like hikes, etc...) will be forthcoming. Look for an e-mail from Jim Malinksi.

3TV Tour on Friday, April 16!

The Bears turn at the TV station is less than two weeks away! We're going on Friday, April 16 at 5pm. The tour will need to begin exactly at 5pm in order to accomodate our awesome tour guide. I don't think she would have given us a 5:00pm start time had she not been so impressed by our Tigers.

Address is 5555 N. 7th Ave (between Missouri and Bethany Home Rd.)
I would really encourage us to try and carpool as we can to keep our numbers down!

See you at Monday's Den Meeting!

7pm-8pm at First Baptist Church of Chandler (our typical meeting location). If you plan to attend the April 23-25 camp out at Camp Raymond, you should attend the Pack Meeting. I sure hope that everybody is at least considering the camp out. We are going to have a terrific time together!

Pack Meeting On Monday, March 29!

There is a Pack Meeting this Monday, March 29 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at First Baptist Church (our usual meeting location)!

If you are interested in the Spring Campout, you should try to attend. I am hoping, hoping, hoping, that Pack Leadership is ready to give us some details at this meeting. Also, if your Scout earned any awards before the Blue and Gold ceremony, he should receive those awards at this Pack Meeting.

And if you are thinking that the picture misses the mark when it comes to Pack Meetings, well, a guy can hope, right?! See you and your Scout there!

April Plans for Bear Den 11!!!

Okay folks, here is what we currently have on the agenda for April:

Den Meeting: Monday, April 5 at 6:30pm we'll have a regular Den Meeting. We will most likely work on earning our Whittling Chip Card. This is a basically a pocket knife safety card. I will send out more details in advance of this Den Meeting.

Television Station Tour: Friday, April 16 at 5pm, we'll be taking the Bears on a tour of 3TV (5555 N. 7th Ave. in Phoenix). The tour will last one hour and I'd love to try and carpool with as many kids as possible. If we could all get there in maybe four or five cars that'd be great--and then all the parents who attend should be able to join the tour. Please RSVP to me at tkeller@ij.org as soon as you know you'll be able to attend and we'll finalize the travel arrangements.

Spring Camp Out: Friday, April 23-Sunday, April 25!!!! Look for more details from Pack Leadership. This will be FUN!!!

Pack Meeting: Currently scheduled for Monday, April 28 at 7pm at First Baptist Church. Can you say, too exhausted to attend?

I've also updated the calendar on the blog: http://www.awesomeden11.blogspot.com/ with March and May activities as currently planned. Note that we've got the Pancakes at Papago on Saturday, May 8!

Spring Hike Is Saturday, March 13 at 1:30pm!!

You should have received an e-mail from Jim Malinski with all of the details for next Saturday's optional Spring Hike! Rather than retype all of the details here (cut and paste function is acting up), if you did not receive the e-mail from Jim please let me know and I will send you the e-mail. Sounds like the Storks are planning to attend. Kellers are 50/50 at this point. But it sounds like it'll be a great hike!

Who Knew Hot Could Be So Cool?

The firefighters of Gilbert Fire Station 1 sure showed our Scouts a cool time in their hot house tonight! They shared some insider knowledge about "Probies"; they introduced us to their Battalion Chief (and let us check out his monster truck); let us check out the crew quarters; and THEN the ladder crew pulled out all the stops by raising the ladder up to the sky!! Unfortunately, our tour guides Paul and Jason were called off before the Scouts could step inside the crew cab, but they did get a chance to tell the kids all about their engine before pulling out of the station. We are grateful for the heroes that serve our community like the brave men and women of Fire Station 1!!
P.S. All of the Scouts will get a very cool patch at an upcoming Den Meeting (probably in April), but maybe at the March Pack Meeting. Thanks, parents, for supporting scouting!!
